William B. Rutherford, Jr. is Chief Financial Officer – Outpatient Services Group for Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. He is responsible for HCA’s company-wide operations of freestanding outpatient facilities to include ambulatory surgery centers, diagnostic imaging and cancer center operations. This also includes physician services to support both hospital and outpatient strategies.
A 19 – year veteran of HCA, Rutherford joined the company as a staff auditor in 1986. He served the company in a variety of roles, including Director of Operations Support, Chief Financial Officer – Georgia Division and was Chief Financial Officer – Eastern Group from 1996 - 2005.
In 2005, he left HCA to start his own training and education company which led to work with several private equity ventures. He served as Chief Operating Officer of Psychiatric Solutions (PSI) from January 2006 to June 2007. PSI is a leading provider of behavioral health services and during his tenure, PSI grew from 54 hospitals to 90.
Rutherford’s current board memberships include YMCA Joe C. Davis outdoor camp and Students Taking a Right Stand (STARS). Past board memberships include Center for Non-Profit Management and Argyle Accounts Receivable Solutions.
Rutherford received a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Tampa. He coaches a travel baseball team and is a private pilot. He resides in Nashville with his wife Nancy and their two children.
